Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Training

Overview

The HSE estimates that roughly 9,000 PPE-related incidents occur each year. With that said, it is evident that employees who require PPE to safely complete their work understand the importance of wearing the PPE, how to wear it correctly, and how to maintain it.

This online training course gives the user an understanding of their duties under the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992. Additionally, it covers the types of PPE that might apply to you, as well as the signs that might be in a workplace showing the mandatory PPE and any warning signs.

Learning Outcomes

In this course you will learn:

  • The different types of PPE and how they are used.
  • Common PPE signage you might encounter in the workplace and how it applies to you.
  • The details of the Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992, and your responsibilities towards compliance.

    Course Contents

This course consists of three sections:

    Section 1: what is PPE?

Section 1 goes into detail about what is included in the term personal protective equipment (PPE). It addresses items that do and do not qualify, how to identify which PPE is necessary for the job at hand, how to maintain and store PPE, and the responsibilities of employers and employees for providing training and information alongside the equipment.

    Section 2: types of PPE

There are different types of PPE for different situations and the protection of different areas of the body. Here, we discuss the essential information about hearing protection, head protection, eye protection, foot protection, hand and arm protection, body protection, extreme temperatures, fall protection, and breathing protection.

Section 3: safety signs relating to PPE

There is a category of safety sign that is used specifically to indicate when PPE should be worn, and what this should include. This section examines these signs, what they mean, and the actions they are instructing you to take.
