Course Contents
This course consists of five sections:
Section 1: you and your back
The first part of this course demonstrates how your back works, how it fits together, and the ways it can be damaged. It considers posture and balance, revealing how bad lifting habits can cause injury, back pain, and other problems over a period of time.
Section 2: preparation
LITE stands for Load Individual Task Environment, and refers to the assessment procedure that should be undertaken before attempting a lift of any kind. Section 3 guides you through the four stages of LITE and how to minimise risks before manual handling takes place.
Section 3: manual handling
Section 3 demonstrates how to perform different types of lift in a safe manner, including lifts from different heights, team lifting, and lifting with equipment.
Section 4: moving and lifting TYRES
Section 4 focuses specifically on how to move different types of tyre, including small and large tyres and tractor tyres. It also demonstrates the processes for two-person lifts and team lifts.
Section 5: conclusion
Section 5 summarises the previous lessons, reminding you the importance of lifting correctly, no matter what the load, and maintaining good back health to protect yourself in the future.

The Manual Handling Including Tyres training course is designed to raise awareness of the risks associated with lifting and carrying in order to reduce the number of injuries that incorrect manual handling practices cause each year.
Broken down into five sections, this course explains the structure of your back and how it can be damaged by short- and long-term habits, particularly relating to posture. It then details how to complete a LITE assessment to minimise the risks of manual handling, before providing techniques for a range of lifts that are common in the workplace, including a section specifically to guide you in lifting tyres.
