Ladder Safety Training

Overview

In the UK, ladders account for roughly 40% of accidents that are a result of falling from height. Evidently, employers need to provide their staff with the knowledge on how to safely use a ladder, as well as how to conduct a pre-check before using a ladder. This, in turn, will help organisations to reduce the risk of a fall from height occurring.

This online training course helps organisations work towards compliance with the Work at Height Regulations 2005 by helping the user to understand the things they need to do before they use a ladder, as well as during use.

Learning Outcomes

In this course you will learn:

  • What infections are, and where they come from.
  • How infections are spread through what is known as ‘the chain of infection’.
  • How to prevent infection through personal hygiene practices.

Course Contents

This course consists of four sections:

Section 1: ladder selection

The first part of this course focuses on how to choose the appropriate ladder for the job to ensure safety. This includes the BSI Kitemark, and the ladder’s size, material and duty rating.

Section 2: ladder pre-check

Section 2 demonstrates the factors to check before you attempt to use a ladder. Pre-checks will ensure that your ladder is in good working order and that nothing that should take your weight is loose or missing.

Section 3: ladder setup

Section 3 leads you through the process of setting up a ladder, including demonstrations of ‘Low Shoulder Carry’ and ‘1:4 Ratio’. This section lists the ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’ that apply to all ladder use, and also shows you how to set up an extension ladder.

Section 4: ladder use

The final section in this course provides techniques for using ladders safely, including how to take it down again safely, as well as ‘ladder etiquette’.

About the Course

Ladders are one of the leading causes of accidents, at home as well as in the workplace. This Ladder Safety training course aims to prevent fall injuries by taking you step-by-step through the process of selecting, checking and using your ladders.

The course begins with an explanation of the different types of ladders and how to select the most appropriate one to ensure you can securely reach the necessary height. It then explores the importance of checking your ladder equipment before use before demonstrating how different ladders should be set up. Finally, it offers practical advice for how to use ladders, particularly around other people, and take them down again when you are finished.

Available in 31 languages, the course takes around 25 minutes to complete.
