Working in Confined Spaces Training

Overview
No matter how regularly an employee has to work in a poorly ventilated confined space, it is essential that they are trained to understand the best practices surrounding their safety whilst working in that environment. The importance of this is reflected by the fact that around 15 people in the UK are killed in confined spaces incidents each year.
This online training course teaches the user how to work safely in confined spaces and poorly ventilated areas, and also helps them to understand their legal responsibilities when working in confined spaces.
Learning Outcomes
In this course you will learn:
- What a confined space is and the hazards it may present.
- How to safely enter, exit, and work in confined spaces.
- Legislation and your responsibilities regarding confined space working.
Course Contents
This course consists of three sections:
Section 1: what is a confined space? Why are they dangerous?
Section 1 defines confined spaces and the various conditions that might make them dangerous to work in, including flammable and hazardous atmospheres, hazardous temperatures, and the risk of drowning or asphyxiation. It also identifies some of the dangerous equipment and substances that are associated with some roles that involve working in confined spaces.
Section 2: legal duties and responsibilities
Section 2 explains the legislation and policies that are in place to protect employees working in confined spaces. This includes who is responsible for ensuring compliance and monitoring safety, what should be considered during a risk assessment, and procedures for evacuation or rescue in the event of an emergency.
Section 3: preparing for entry
Section 3 provides guidance for how to ensure a confined space is safe before entering. This includes procedures to check the atmosphere, and levels of oxygen, flammability and toxicity. This section also includes information on purging and ventilation, and considers necessary processes and equipment for cleaning, lighting, and personal protection.
